During the 3rd FX project(The project to import new generation aircraft in ROKAF) PAK-FA was one of the candidates of new aircraft to protect South Korea among F-15SE, F-35 and Eurofighter Typhoon. However it was first to be rejected due to compatibility issues with Western-standardised parts and eventually F-35 won the competition.
