Tired of the ugly purple afterburners? You're not the only one!
This mod is adding more realistic (of course not fully realistic) afterburners to Add-On planes. Original GTA jets or replace version are also supported but you first need to remove their afterburner dummy or the purple flame will still be there. This first version will include visual effects only but future versions will have physical effects on the aircraft also. I'm also going to add offset parameters to the AfterburnerPlanes.txt in the future in case mod authors haven't placed the exhaust dummies in a good position.
-- How to use --
1. Copy all three files (BetterAfterburners.asi, BetterAfterburners.ini and BetterAfterburnerPlanes.txt) to your main GTA directory
2. Customize your afterburner key in the BetterAfterburners.ini (A list of available keys: https://msdn.microsoft.com/de-de/library/windows/desktop/dd375731(v=vs.85).aspx). The default key to toggle afterburners is Num 6
3. Add the planes you want to have afterburners to the BetterAfterburnerPlanes.txt (one plane each line). The file will already have two examples in it.
4. Customize your in game effects in the BetterAfterburners.ini (Use the value "1" to turn on an effect and "0" to turn it off. Without the "" of course.)
5. Start your game and use your configured key to toggle afterburners on and off
NOTE THAT YOUR PLANES HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DUMMIES TO WORK: exhaust, exhaust_2, exhaust_3 or exhaust_4
-- Changelog --
- 1.0: Inital release
- 1.1: Added a shaking effect (toggle it on/off via BetterAfterburners.ini)
Added an option to toggle the orange "heat circle" on or off
Please update your BetterAfterburners.ini to the latest version also

@duration Changing these values will only control if the effects are on or off. I didn't have time to add values to control the size of flame yet
@TR71777 Oh year sorry, was on the German Microsoft site and just copied the link (the list should still be in English tho). Here the correct link: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us//library/windows/desktop/dd375731(v=vs.85).aspx
Regarding the vehicle names, I'm currently not at home and can't have a look at the file but as far as I remember you need to add the vehicles names line by line
@Oskar no issues bro I was only worried if you are alive, healthy and still remember about this problem, and if still in there future if there is a chance that it can be hopefuly fix for it, so just wanted to clarify bro
@Oskar Hey, love the script, but the affect doesn't show up when I change Shaking to 0.
waste of time not working on typhoon
Hope to update to the support 1.43 version
Realism 10/10 Thanks.
@Oskar
Hey Dude, are you around? Will there be any chance to have a minute to downscale the flame effect somehow?
No evidence in description of controller support makes me sad.
Any way to tighten up the shape of the flame? It looks more like an open flame when it should have a smooth cylindrical appearance resembling that of a blow torch. Great mod otherwise.
After switching between charecters the after burners didnt work. Please fix it
The shaking effect works, but the afterburner doesn't work. Can you help me?
can you make it possible to change the afterburner toggle button? not the on/off script, but the actual effect. by default it is W, but its messing with my plane controls
Followed Instructions nothing worked.
Nevermind forget the previous angry comment, I figured it out, I got a question. Is there a way to make the after burners look clean like it just looks like flames? Like I want it tobe like what jets produce.
can you make the afterburner effect to ONLY WORK for the vehicles noted in BetterAfterburnerPlanes.txt. hydra and rogue isn't even in the .txt file and the heat coming from the engine changes into that afterburner without me pressing 6 on numpad, and it makes it look like some modified race truck with flames coming out of exhausts, the effect is amazing but please fix this
@Oskar I really loved this mod but when I change my character to something else it stops working until I restart the game :(
Can you perhaps take a look at this? :/
Will it work with helicopters? I placed exhaust dummies in model but the effect is not working.
@Oskar
Can you add more points to the upper limit of this plug-in? If it exceeds a certain number, an error will be reported
nice mod
this doesn't even look like a real afterburner but this is the only mod that works
